UPMC Western Maryland Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Share:

Included at the UPMC Western Maryland Wound Care Center are two state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) chambers. The HBO chambers provide 100 percent oxygen at an increased atmospheric pressure to allow wounds that lack oxygen, or have not responded to other therapies, heal. The painless hyperbaric oxygen therapy often includes multiple treatments, depending on the response of the wound.

Conditions which may benefit from HBO chamber include, diabetic ulcers associated with bone infection, bone infections secondary to other causes, delayed radiation injury to either soft tissue or bone, exposure to previous head and neck radiation, and the need for tooth extractions and associated arterial insufficiencies.
