Bariatric Support Group

This is a free support group if you have had bariatric surgery or want to gain insight from those who have had the experience. The group will discuss common problems, concerns and joys while learning skills to adjust to your weight loss. Throughout the year, presentations are made on various subjects of interest to members. This group also may be used to fulfill one of the pre-operative requirements for bariatric surgery.

Better Breathers Club

Western Maryland Health System Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs Better Breathers Club is a support group for individuals with chronic lung disease. For more information, contact Stacey Blank.

According to the American Lung Association, Better Breathers Clubs are welcoming support groups for patients and caregivers affected by chronic lung diseases including COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer. Learn better ways to better cope with lung disease while getting the support of others in similar situations. Led by a trained facilitator, these in-person adult support groups give you the tools you need to live the best life you can.

Better Breathers Clubs meet regularly and feature educational presentations on a wide range of relevant topics, including:

  • How lung disease affects the lungs
  • Breathing techniques
  • Exercise
  • Talking with your physician
  • Medications and other treatment options
  • Medical tests
  • Supplemental oxygen
  • Home healthcare
  • Lung transplants
  • Air pollution

Caring Family & Friends

Feeling lost, powerless, frustrated and alone? Is someone you care about struggling with addiction?

The Caring Family & Friends support group is for adults with family and friends who are dealing with addiction. It is a place where individuals can find comfort and support from others who truly understand. Facilitated by Eileen Peterman, LGPC

Childbirth Prenatal Education Schedule

Every pregnancy is unique. No two women, pregnancies, labor, or babies are exactly the same. WMHS offers a variety of classes for the expectant mother and her family. These classes help you and your family understand the physical and emotional changes common during pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

Circle of Friends Bereavement Support Group

Circle of Friends Bereavement Support Group is open if you are grieving the death of a loved one and would like to meet with others who have similar shared experiences. The group meets monthly from 6-7 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Circle of Friends meets at the WMHS Home Hospice Services office on Industrial Blvd. in the former Ames/Hills Department Store. The facilitator for the group is Patti Thomas, LCSW.

Diabetes Support Groups – Adult and Young Adult

Whether you have recently been diagnosed with diabetes or have been living with it for years, a support group can be helpful. You can share your experience and learn tips for managing your diabetes. Facilitators for the group include certified diabetes educators Lori Johnson, RN, BSN, CDE; and Jennifer Perrin, RD, LDN, CDE.

Sleep Apnea Support Group

Led by Shannon Sprenkle, CRNP, this group will cover several important topics related to sleep apnea and will also have a question/answer session. Representatives from local medical supply companies and CPAP manufacturers will also be available with the latest equipment and to answer questions.
