The Occupational Health Services of Western Maryland Health System (WMHS) help business owners look after the health needs of their employees. No matter the size of a business staff, Occupational Health Services is happy to customize a program to meet every business unique needs. Occupational Health Services are in three location: Cumberland and Frostburg in Maryland and Short Gap, West Virginia.

Educational Programs: Certified instructors provide the following programs: Automatic External Defibrillator (AED); Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); First Aid; Blood Borne Pathogens

Employee Health Services: Employers may request an evaluation of both job and non-job related illness or injury to determine an employees capacity to perform his/her job duties safely and effectively. An appropriate treatment plan and accommodation of work duties will be recommended.

Independent Medical Examiner - Dr. James Deren


Dr. James B. Deren is a physician with the Occupational Health Program at the Western Maryland Heath System and is a certified independent medical examiner. Independent medical examiners are physicians not otherwise involved in the care or treatment of a patient who conducts exams at the request of employers seeking to determine the health status of their employees. Deren was certified by the internationally recognized American Board of Independent Medical Examiners, which serves as the quality assurance organization for IME accreditation. He has been a member of the medical staff at WMHS since 1991 and is the medical review officer for the Occupational Health Program.

Occupational Health Program Physician - Dr. Vamsi Kanumrui

Vamsi Kanumuri, M.D., joins Dr. James Deren at the WMHS Occupational Health Center. Most recently, he completed his residency in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Kanumari holds advanced degrees in Public Health (Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene) and earned his medical degree in India.
