Mary Marrale

     Congratulations to Mary Marrale, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of June. 

     Employed since 2013, Mary is an Information System Specialist in Human Resources.  She is described as a great team player who is positive and kind in all situations.  Mary goes above and beyond the call of duty on a daily basis and her customer service abilities are top notch. 

     She is very dedicated to her job and takes great pride in her work.  The integrity of her work product is extremely important to her.  Mary goes out of her way on a consistent basis to provide additional education to managers and employees who may be struggling with system related items - and she does so with a smile on her face. 

     She strives to improve processes and find efficiencies wherever and whenever possible.  Mary is a continual learner and takes on any task without hesitation.  Co-workers say it is a joy to work with her.

Kim Lease

     Congratulations to Kim Lease, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of May. 

     Employed since 1986, Kim is described as an excellent CNA and a shining star in showing innovation and compassion.

     She is always finding new ways to comfort her patients and takes pride to do so.  Kim can foresee needs and fulfill them before patients even have to ask.  She maintains a pleasant, cheerful attitude and her patients look forward to seeing her.  Kim is a mentor for new nursing assistants and is a Child Passenger Safety technician, providing a valuable service of infant care seat safety.  Kim is an invaluable member of her team and a true reflection of the WMHS Core Values!

Janet Chisholm

 Congratulations to Janet Chisholm, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of April.  An employee with 48 years of dedicated service, Janet is a nurse in Pediatrics at WMHS.

  Janet is an exceptional employee who has been praised by staff as a calm, experienced and professional pediatric nurse.  She is a constant advocate for her patients and looks after their families with the utmost care and kindness.  In fact, the pediatricians have recognized Janet's quick action combined with her vast knowledge of pediatric care as a tremendous asset to WMHS.  

  She works very hard to orient the new hires on her unit and has trained a generation of pediatric care providers over the years. Janet's nursing instincts and persistence have saved many lives, according to Dr. Michael Levitas.  He says she has intervened on several occasions when she was concerned about the status of a young patient.   

  Janet is a shining example of our Core Values and a Service Excellence role model.

Tamara Haines

   Congratulations to Tamara Haines, recipient of the March 2017 WMHS Values in Action Award.  Employed at WMHS since 2001, Tamara is a nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).

   Her co-workers share that Tamara continually goes above and beyond what is expected to make each patient’s experience at WMHS a positive one. She is a tireless advocate for patients and has genuine care and concern for every patient she encounters. 

   Tamara fills the PACU with positive energy and her upbeat personality is appreciated by her patients and co-workers.  She serves as the lead for the department’s Team Building Committee that has made great strides in bringing unity to all areas of perioperative services.  Tamara is a role model for nurses in both PACU and the perioperative area and makes each new employee feel welcome.

   She is definitely a role model for everyone at WMHS through her demonstration of our Core Values and Service Excellence. Congratulations, Tamara!

Sharon Butler

   Congratulations to Sharon Butler, recipient of the February 2017 WMHS Values in Action Award.  Employed since 2012, Sharon is a Therapy Aide in Therapy Administration.

   Described by her co-workers as an exceptional employee with a positive attitude, Sharon has received many peak performer awards, along with numerous off-the-record compliments for always going above her duties to benefit patient care.  Many patients and family members voice their gratitude for Sharon's gentleness and calming presence in difficult situations.

   Sharon has been known to calm the wife of a gentleman who had difficulty accepting that she could no longer care for her husband, to minimizing the anxiety in other stressful situations.  

   Sharon assures grace and professionalism in her approach.  It is said that Sharon is the “silent soldier” that holds the department together.  She exemplifies the WMHS Core Values and is a wonderful role model for Service Excellence. 

 

 

January 2017 Recipient

Kelly Kilbane

  Congratulations to Kelly Kilbane, the Values in Action Award winner for the month of January.  Employed with WMHS since 2012, she is a nurse in High Level Care.

  Kelly is an excellent caregiver who provides a supportive environment to staff, especially to those new to the unit.  She is very helpful in boosting morale by continuously creating games, events, and ideas for her co-workers to participate in.

  Kelly maintains a positive attitude and keeps her cool even when High Level Care is very busy and the census is extremely high.  She’s always willing and ready to learn new processes and procedures that help improve the care and satisfaction of her patients.  Kelly volunteers to put in extra hours to assist whenever she is needed.  She tries to stay upbeat regardless of the situation, even when it means putting others needs before herself.
  Kelly is a valuable asset to her unit and the health system.  She also serves as a Service Excellence/Patient Experience Champion.

December 2016 Recipient

Hannah Corcoran

   Congratulations to Hannah Corcoran, the Values in Action Award winner for the month of December.  An employee since April 2013, Hannah is a Behavioral Health Case Manager in Outpatient Behavioral Health Services.

   Hannah is an outstanding member of the Behavioral Health team.  She approaches her work with an upbeat, positive attitude and a can-do spirit.  She is a great team player who often finishes her assigned work and then helps out other providers as needed.  Hannah consistently displays a patient-centered sensibility and is always willing to help patients connect with appropriate community resources.  Her most valuable contribution is her commitment to keeping communication flowing between the staff, co-workers, patients, and their families.  

   Hannah is a splendid example of Service Excellence and her tireless effort reflects the WMHS Core Values.

 

November 2016 Recipient

Tracy Stewart

  Congratulations to Tracy Stewart, the Values in Action Award winner for the month of November.  Employed by the Health System since June 2014, Tracy is a Housekeeping Aide in the Environmental Services Department.  

  Tracy takes ownership of her assigned area and takes pride in keeping her patient rooms clean.  Co-workers comment that Tracy often goes the extra mile to ensure that patients and families have all of the “little extras” they need, many of which may not even be EVS-related.  Just one example of this was shared recently while Patient Advocates, Robert and Jo Jo Appel, were rounding.  A patient’s husband pointed in the hallway, saying, "See that girl out there?  She is wonderful!  She makes sure that my wife's room is clean and she goes out of her way to make her feel special. She even checks on me to see if I need a cup of coffee or a newspaper!"  

 Tracy is very respectful and is a real team player.  She is a shining example of Service Excellence and embodies the WMHS Core Values.

Josh Savage

     Congratulations to Josh Savage, recipient of the Values in Action Award for the month of October.  A WMHS employee since 2003, Josh is described as a true and natural leader in the Emergency Department.  As a charge nurse on the night-shift, he sets a high standard of performance for the staff and co-workers in his unit.  

     Josh encourages his team and provides valuable feedback so that they may continue to grow as professionals.  He often leads by example and is respectful of everyone he comes in contact with.  Through his experience, he has developed a wide knowledge base and skill set which he shares with others in order to build the department as a whole. 

    Josh consistently works to identify solutions to issues.  His positive attitude, kindness, willingness to share his knowledge, and commitment to WMHS ED are unmatched.  He is a role model, a team player, and a true reflection of the WMHS Core Values!

September 2016 Recipient

Jennifer Garrison

   Congratulations to Jennifer Garrison, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of September.  Employed with WMHS since 1981, Jennifer is the Navigator/Registrar at the Center for Clinical Resources. 

   She goes above and beyond in every aspect of her job and she does this in a manner of grace and dignity.  She treats patients with honor and respect, as well as her co-workers.  Jennifer is the go-to person in the CCR when issues arise with Meditech or eCW.  She is constantly trouble-shooting and working to improve the patient flow process not only to benefit our patients but to help the staff as well.

   She assists with the "Sunshine Fund," which is a kitty the staff has to make sure all co-workers are recognized during nurses, pharmacist, respiratory therapist, and secretary's week.  Jennifer is an excellent employee and truly exemplifies the Core Values of the WMHS.

Caitlin Martin

   Congratulations to Caitlin Martin, winner of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of August.

   An employee since 2013, Caitlin is a nurse in the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU).  She is an excellent caregiver and a true team player with a positive attitude and compassion for everyone she meets.   

   Co-workers say Caitlin is always smiling and more than ready to help out when needed.  She will often anticipate the needs of others and takes a proactive approach in her nursing care.  Caitlin brings a breath of fresh air and an attitude of accountability, respect and integrity to her work in the CVU.

   She goes out of her way to make her patients feel very special.  Caitlin is always there to offer support and to empathize with patients and their families.  Whether its a birthday card, balloons, or a "Get Well Soon" sign, she takes care of the little things that mean so much to the patients in her care.  Caitlin is a valuable asset to WMHS and a great example of service excellence and Core Values.

John Lapid

   Congratulations to John Lapid, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of July. 

   Employed since 1992, John is the Clinical Coordinator for Physical Therapy in the Home Care Department.  John goes above and beyond in every situation, displaying a positive outlook. 

   John is a tireless and compassionate advocate for the needs of the home care patients and staff.  He is a mentor to others, always lending a hand for the better of the department.  John is efficient, innovative, respectful and compassionate in his everyday interactions.  He is usually the "go-to" person for his department and never refuses to help out even when his schedule is full.

   He is always looking to streamline the processes in Physical Therapy, from a better way to handle therapy mileage, completing paperwork in a timely fashion and making discharges more efficient.  John is an extraordinary example of Service Excellence and a genuine role model for the WMHS Core Values!

Sheryl Smith

   Congratulations to Sheryl Smith, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of June.  An employee since 2012, Sheryl is an ED Tech and a valued member of the Emergency Department team.  She consistently portrays a positive attitude, is committed to doing her best, and goes out of her way to assist her co-workers and patients.

   Co-workers say Sheryl is very engaged in the department and regularly makes suggestions for process improvement.  She often goes above and beyond the call of duty to provide a positive ER experience for the patients she cares for.  Sheryl always has a smile on her face and a kind word to offer to all.   

   Her supervisor says Sheryl is always on the move and requires very little direction.  She never hesitates to jump in to help get the job done.  She is a team player who uses her skills to keep the unit clean by offering assistance to others to accomplish more together.  Sheryl is a role model and a true reflection of the WMHS Core Values!

 
 

 

 

May 2016 Recipient

Angela Lipscomb

   Congratulations to Angela Lipscomb, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of May.  Employed since 1992, she is a nurse clinician in OB/Labor and Delivery.  

   Co-workers describe her as the “poster girl” for Service Excellence.  As a night shift staff member, Angela makes the best use of her patient interactions and time in order to promote a quiet, healing environment.  She is extremely knowledgeable about any and all areas of the perinatal unit and ensures that the education and explanations given to patient and family are completely comprehended before discharge.

   She is respectful of all, and holds others accountable to do the same.  Angela continually works to make things better for her patients, their families, the physicians and the staff.  As the unit’s scheduling coordinator, she spends a great deal of time developing the monthly schedules to assure that all guidelines and rules are met so as to be totally fair to each person.  Angela is an invaluable member of her team and a true reflection of the WMHS Core Values!

April 2016 Recipient

Cindy Wilson

Congratulations to Cindy Wilson, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of April.  Employed with WMHS since 2001 and Trivergent since 2014, Cindy is the Clinical Coordinator for Employee Health. 

Known for coming into work early and is usually the last one to leave, Cindy goes above and beyond to meet the needs of our employees.  It is not uncommon to see her throughout the hospital or traveling to locations within the community to ensure that our staff and physicians are vaccinated and/or PPDs are checked.  On numerous occasions, she has been known to personally assist employees who were struggling to pay for a prescription from a physician. 

Cindy was instrumental in the inception of the “Mass Flu Clinic,” bringing the idea back from a conference that she had attended.  Five years later, and with the help of many people, this annual flu clinic continues to be strong and serves as our annual Disaster Preparedness drill.  Cindy truly takes our Core Values to heart and is a true model for Service Excellence.

Gay Twigg

   Congratulations to Gay Twigg, recipient of the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of March. 

   Employed since 2008, Gay is a nurse who works on the Inpatient Behavioral Health unit.  She is described by co-workers as an invaluable member of the team and she goes out of her way to make sure the patients in her care are treated with dignity and respect. 

   Very organized and always well-prepared for her co-workers and the oncoming shift, Gay is often willing to stay over to lend a hand whenever the need arises.  Her compassion and generosity are evident not only to her team, but to her patients, their families, and her co-workers for whom she goes above and beyond to advocate for the best care available.

   She exemplifies the WMHS Core Values and is a true role model for Service Excellence.

Lisa Hout

   Congratulations to Lisa Hout, winner of the Values in Action Award for the month of February. 

   An employee since 2004, Lisa is the Senior Development Officer for the WMHS Foundation.  

   She is recognized for setting the standard for organizational culture.  Lisa is blessed with extraordinary communication skills as well as a remarkable perseverance, resourcefulness, focus and endless kindness.  Her genuine concern, faith, and respect for others lead her to be both responsive, and to anticipate needs. 

   Lisa is a tireless advocate for our patients and co-workers who does not stop working until the mission is accomplished.  She is a pleasure to work with and exemplifies the WMHS Core Values and serves as a true role model for Service Excellence.

January 2016 Recipient

June Ward

   The WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of January is June Ward from Human Resources.

   Employed since 1987 with WMHS and with Trivergent since 2014, June is the Benefits Analyst in the Human Resources department.  Putting her customers first, June’s co-workers describe her as helpful, efficient and the “go-to” person for benefits at WMHS.  She goes above and beyond, working extra hours as needed, to assure that systems and processes are administered in an easy to understand and use manner.  She makes sure that she thorough understands any changes that are made so that she can easily assist employees. 

   June makes improvement suggestions, attempts to anticipate issues and concerns, and follows up to make sure that any of the inevitable “glitches” are resolved quickly.  June exemplifies the WMHS Core Values and is a true role model for Service Excellence. Congratulations!

December 2015 Recipient

Patricia Smith

      The WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of December was presented to Patricia Smith, a member of the Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center nursing team. 

     An employee since 1995, Pat is a valuable asset who brings a wealth of knowledge, skill, and experience to her unit.  She is a proven leader and excellent charge nurse.  Pat is detail- oriented, organized and a real team player and mentor, going above and beyond the call of duty every day to help her co-workers. 

     She anticipates the needs of her residents, families and staff, identifying the needs of the “whole person,” not only physically, but mentally and emotionally, as well.  Pat is an outstanding caregiver and an inspiring example of what all nurses should strive to attain. 

    Congratulations - you are a true reflection of the WMHS Core Values. 

November 2015 Recipient

Tim Greise

   Congratulations to Tim Greise, recipient of the Values in Action Award for the month of November.  An employee since 1990, Tim is a housekeeping aide in Environmental Services (EVS).  He is a dedicated and very reliable member of the EVS team who is considered the "Go to Guy" for many special projects and time-sensitive jobs around WMHS.  

   Tim's positive attitude and willingness to assist visitors and co-workers provides a great example of how every employee should reach-out to engage our customers.  He often volunteers to work extra hours on weekends for special assignment jobs in the WOC and Brook Buildings on the Willowbrook campus.  Tim is described as personable, hard-working, supportive and very detail-oriented. 

    After a co-worker recently suffered a devastating home fire and medical crisis, Tim stepped up to help in several ways.  He helped cover her work shifts during the process of getting her home ready for her family to return.  Tim and his co-workers even donated some of their leave to the employee until she got back on her feet.  Decency and kindness are words that have been associated with Tim - a role model, team player, and an example of the WMHS Core Values!

Jody Rizer

    Congratulations to Jody Rizer, recipient of the Values in Action Award for the month of October.  Employed for nine years, Jody is a valuable member of the Food and Nutrition team.  Described as exceptionally loyal, trustworthy and of high moral character, Jody’s director also shares that she is totally committed to service excellence and strives to provide her customer with the highest quality. 

   She displays a contagious enthusiasm for producing excellent products and in turn motivates her co-workers to follow her lead.  Jody provides the best customer service during the Thursday Demo’s in the Food Court. It is her true signature of what Service Excellence and great customer service is all about.  Jody’s customers often comment on her acts of thoughtfulness and kindness.  She is a role model, a team player, and a true reflection of the WMHS Core Values! 

September 2015 Recipient

Lori Russell

     Congratulations to Lori Russell for being selected the winner of the Values in Action Award for the month of September.

     Employed with WMHS since 1993, Lori is a Nurse Clinician, Intake RN/Education Coordinator in Hospice.  She is often the first hospice contact that a family has.  Lori is able to meet the family where they are, understanding how difficult it can be to receive the news that their prognosis is terminal.  She gently explains that the Hospice program does not take away hope, but rather gives the patient and family the support needed through a very difficult time.

    Lori works to accommodate the family’s schedules and is willing to stay in the home or hospital room as long as needed, giving the patient and family much needed support.  Her non-judgmental ways make everyone that crosses her path feel cared for and welcomed into the Hospice Program.

Tiffany Matthews

     Congratulations to Tiffany Matthews for being selected as the winner of the Values in Action Award for the month of August.  An employee since 2013, Tiffany is a registered nurse on 7 South.  She is an exceptional caregiver and a team player with a cheerful, positive attitude and engaging personality.

    Tiffany is always eager to help assist her co-workers when needed and often anticipates the needs of her patients and their families.  She is very organized and takes everything in stride.  Tiffany leads by example, bringing her pleasant demeanor and can-do spirit to the most difficult tasks.  Co-workers have even referred to her as a "Disney Princess" for her ability to solve problems and spread happiness.  

    She is dedicated to being an advocate for her patients and makes every effort to make them as comfortable as possible during their stay.  Tiffany is a glowing example of Service Excellence and demonstrates the WMHS Core Values every day.

Tammy Scaife

    Congratulations to Tammy Scaife for being chosen as the Values in Action Award winner for the month of July. Employed since 2003, Tammy is a well-respected nurse in the Operating Room.

    Co-workers say Tammy’s positive attitude, pleasant manner and unparalleled clinical knowledge of the surgical unit places her patients at ease and reassures them about their procedures.  She is a leader and a premier clinical resource to others within the operative arena.  Tammy inspires others to "raise the bar" and holds them accountable to do so.  She constantly strives to make the unit more efficient and to run smoothly.

    She is tireless in her efforts to make her patient’s experience as pleasant and safe as possible.  She is a true advocate, a role model and a team player.  Tammy is a shining example of Service Excellence and a true demonstration of the WMHS Core Values.

Nina Lancaster

     Congratulations to Nina Lancaster, for being chosen as the June 2015 WMHS Values in Action Award winner.  An employee since 2011, Nina works as a nurse in the health system's Wound Care Clinic.  She is an amazing Wound Care Clinician and RN with a gentle, caring nature and a well-deserved track record as the ultimate team player.

     Nina is one of the most giving and compassionate nurses.  She spends an endless amount of time and energy on her patients and their well being.  A true patient advocate, she exemplifies all aspects of the WMHS Core Values.  Nina has an infectious attitude that is always positive and supportive.  She is a pleasure to work with and comes to work everyday with a smile on her face.

    Co-workers say Nina goes above and beyond the call of duty to help out when needed.  In fact, not a day goes by that she does not offer help to her co-workers, other departments and almost all of the patients she serves.  Nina is a very knowledgeable resource for wound care and nursing.  She does an excellent job mentoring new nurses and other disciplines.

May 2015 Recipient

Amy Jenkins

     Congratulations to Amy Jenkins for being chosen as the May 2015 WMHS Values in Action Award.  An employee since 2002, Amy is a nurse in the Emergency Department.  She is an excellent clinician and a team player who displays a real passion for her work. 

     Amy is a seasoned and well-respected ED nurse and a true champion of Service Excellence at WMHS.  She is always willing to lend a helping in a every situation she encounters.  Her work ethic and technical skills are second to none.  Amy continuously seeks out further education in order to build her knowledge base.  She is a dedicated team member who frequently comes in at a moment's notice to assist her coworkers.

     Amy regularly assumes additional duties as a relief Charge Nurse as well as a Stress Debriefing Counselor for the ED staff.  She is an excellent preceptor for new staff and also serves her local community as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.  Her level of compassion, positive attitude and strong desire to always do her very best serves as an inspiration to all.  Amy is a valued member of the ED staff and an asset to our community.

April 2015 Recipient

Jill Mazzeo

     Congratulations to Jill Mazzeo for being named the winner of the April 2015 WMHS Values in Action Award.

     An employee for 21 years, Jill is a Senior Financial & Production Analyst in the Finance Department.  She is an excellent employee and a hard worker who is a team player with a pleasant attitude.  Jill interacts with many departments and organizations outside of the health system.  She generates accurate reports and compiles data for a variety of important projects. 

     Jill has taken ownership of several data projects including the state of Maryland HSCRC requirements and she has been so successful that the state and one of our IT vendors considers WMHS as the leading hospital for managing data collection.  Co-workers say Jill is knowledgeable, well-respected, an outstanding resource and almost unflappable.

     Her strong work ethic, integrity, and great analytical skills make her a valuable asset to her department and WMHS.

March 2015 Recipient

Laura Lepley

     Congratulations to Laura Lepley, Clinics and Practices, for being named the winner of the March 2015 WMHS Values in Action Award. 

     Employed by the Health System for nine years, Laura is a Medical Office Assistant at Hunt Club Medical Center.  Laura co-workers share, “Laura goes above and beyond patient satisfaction with her extremely sweet, kind, and gentle demeanor.  She can reasonably handle difficult situations or conversations with patients and/or family members.  Laura learns every new task or a new computer program quickly and easily.  She patiently helps all those who call or come to the front desk in a every gracious manner.  She is very diligent with her work and never leaves a stone unturned regarding patient care from start to finish.  Laura works exceptionally with her co-workers and those in other WMHS physician offices and clinics.  She is always willing to help.”  You exemplify the WMHS Core Values and are a wonderful role model for Service Excellence!

Mary Walker

   Congratulations to Mary Walker, a housekeeping aide in Environmental Services (EVS), for being selected as the winner of the February 2015 WMHS Values in Action Award.

   Employed by WMHS since 1980, Mary is an excellent worker and a team player with a positive attitude and a can-do spirit that helps lead her co-workers by example.  She always has a warm smile and a kind word for everyone she meets.  Mary often goes above and beyond the call of duty to help visitors reach their destination by personally taking them to their desired location.  She is assigned to the Emergency Department and she takes a great deal of pride in keeping the ED clean, well-stocked with supplies and generally in amazing condition, according to her co-workers.  

   Mary is dedicated to the ED staff, co-workers, patients and their families.  She pitches in when and where her services are needed - even willing to come in at 2 a.m. to handle an urgent situation and then showing up later that morning for her regular shift.  Mary's work ethic is legendary and it sets a wonderful example for her younger colleagues.  She has even arranged to bring in enough food to feed lunch to the entire staff without expecting anything in return. 

   Co-workers say Mary is considerate, reliable, friendly, helpful, caring and very thorough.  She is a valuable asset to WMHS and her department.  Mary is an unbeatable combination of Service Excellence and the WMHS Core Values that makes her a pleasure to be considered a peer.

Chere Thacker, RN

  Congratulations to Anita "Chere" Thacker, a nurse in Medical Oncology at the Schwab Family Cancer Center, for being selected as the winner of the January 2015 WMHS Values in Action Award.

  An employee since 2010, Chere is an excellent caregiver and an unselfish team player who treats her patients with respect and dignity.  Before recently moving to the Cancer Center, she worked in the infusion room (IV Therapy) administering IV antibiotics.  Chere worked very closely with Dr. Aman Dalal and his staff to treat patients with very serious conditions.  

  Many face months of treatment, which is a huge commitment and a challenging experience requiring daily trips to the hospital for infusions.  Chere carefully explains everything to them and conveys an unwavering trust and compassion toward her patients.  She makes them feel comfortable about their treatment by letting them know that she will be by their side to help them get through the extensive therapy.

Leona McTaggart

  Congratulations to Leona McTaggart, Activities Coordinator at Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for being the recipient of the December 2014 WMHS Values in Action Award.  

  An employee since last year, Leona is an outstanding team player who has brought a whole new meaning to the word "activities." She is described as infectiously positive and upbeat, and her enthusiasm she has energized her entire department.  Leona’s interactions with the residents of the facility reflect compassion and concern for their well-being and happiness.  She has brought some innovative ideas and concepts to the FNRC environment.

Kevin Niemeyer

   Congratulations to Kevin Niemeyer from Biomedical Engineering, for being selected WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of August.  

   An employee since 1993, Kevin is a vital member of the Biomed team.  He is an excellent technician who schedules his day (literally) around surgical cases and the needs of the Peri-operative staff.  Kevin also coordinates vendor-assisted work and required preventive maintenance.  He consistently rounds through the OR departments to ensure there are no items requiring additional follow-up.

Jeff Hobbs

   Congratulations to Jeff Hobbs, Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department, for being selected as the recipient of the November 2014 WMHS Values and Action Award. 

   Employed by the health System for seven years, Jeff’s coworkers describe him as well-respected and a highly experienced clinician.  Leading by example, he shows fairness and understanding toward the respect to the ED staff, patients and families.  Jeff’s calm, steady leadership style provides stability in the ED’s frequently chaotic environment. 

   His nursing experience in the ED and with the Clinical Resource team provides a deep level of clinical knowledge which he freely shares with his coworkers.  Jeff is an Aggression Management Instructor for WMHS, as well as a WMHS Trauma Course Instructor.  He serves his community as a captain of his local volunteer fire company and is an active EMT.  Jeff is a shining example of Service Excellence and a true demonstration of the Core Values.

Kim Jackson

    Congratulations to Kim Jackson, Medical Social Worker in Care Coordination, for being selected as the recipient of the October Values in Action Award.

    An employee since 1980, Kim is an outstanding member of the WMHS team who consistently goes above and beyond his job duties for the patients that he directly serves.  He works tirelessly to make sure his patients in the Dialysis Department have transportation, food, medications, and financial support and assistance.  Kim volunteers to help his co-workers on a daily basis and everyone knows that they can pick up the phone if they need help at a moment’s notice.

    His caring, kind, and compassionate nature are genuine assets and he treats everyone with the utmost courtesy and respect.  Kim is a great listener and is never forceful in his demeanor. Co-workers describe him as reliable, thorough, considerate and very resourceful.  He is a mentor and the go-to person for the entire department.  

    Earlier this year, Kim was honored as the Social Worker of the Year by the Western Maryland AHEC Social Work Caucus for Allegany and Garrett counties.

Barbara Lamberson

    Congratulations to Barbara Lamberson, from Clinics and Practices, for being selected as the recipient of the September 2014 WMHS Values in Action Award.  Employed by the health system for 12 years, Barb is a vital team member of the WMHS GI/General Surgery practice. 

    According to surgeon Dr. Birat Dhungel, “Barb is loved by the patients at my office.  She is hard working and goes beyond her regular duties to make sure things run smoothly.  She is peerless, not only as a secretary, but also as my coding/billing specialist.  I am amazed as to how someone can so quickly not just learn, but master, surgical codes after working with GI codes for a long time.  Barb’s work ethics are unparalleled.  She exemplifies great foresight and thoughtfulness for the office where she works.”

Jane Adams

   Congratulations to Jane Adams, the Performance Improvement/Staff Education Coordinator for Home Hospice, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of July.  

   Employed with the health system since 2001, she is a vital member of the team.  Jane’s co-workers say she has a gentle and caring way about her that promotes healing and comfort to the broken-hearted, calming the storms of emotions that are present when a loved one is dying.  She is calm in the midst of chaotic and stressful situations and is always offering a kind and encouraging word to everyone around her. 

   Jane does many things outside of her patient assignment, quietly from her heart.  This includes bereavement visits or calls not on her schedule for months after a patient’s death and taking favorite foods to patients and caregivers.  Jane is a mentor and is flexible in scheduling, striving to always meet the department’s needs.  She is sensitive and supportive of coworkers and is an active member of Parish Nursing. 

  Jane is a shining example of Service Excellence and a true demonstration of the Core Values.  It has been said that when assigning Jane as a patient’s primary nurse, both patient and family are receiving a true gift!

   Congratulations to Adalee Rice, unit secretary from the inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of June.

  Employed at WMHS since 1978, Adalee is an outstanding employee and a very efficient unit secretary.  She is a team player with a positive attitude who makes sure every staff member is prepared for their challenging work.  in addition to assisting in their training, she follows up with extra support and encouragement that helps reinforce their future success.  

  Adalee takes our patient's best interests and well-being to heart.  She is friendly and helpful to patients and is sincere when talking with them.  She allows them to vent their feelings and never looks down on you or turns away when you have a question.  Adalee actively participates and contributes to patient care planning and discharge.  She is always willing to step in and perform patient safety rounds or pass out snack if the unit is busy or short-staffed.

Lois Cook

    Congratulations to Lois Cook, from Information Technology, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of May.

    An employee with 43 years of dedicated service, she is a clinical analyst in the health system’s IT Department.  Lois is an excellent employee with impeccable clinical skills and has a vast wealth of knowledge in both the nursing and IT fields.  She is a consummate professional and a tremendous asset to the health system and her department.  Lois trained and worked as a registered nurse in a variety of units at WMHS before joining IT in 2007.  

    Her positive attitude and superb communication skills help her develop strong working relationships with the nursing units and departments she works with.  Co-workers describe Lois as personable, innovative, organized and thoughtful.  A physician co-worker who nominated Lois for this award, says she is a proven problem-solver and called her “Our Miracle Worker!"

   An employee since 2009, Pam is the secretary/biller in a very busy office in the MAC. She is an excellent employee with a positive attitude and a pleasant, caring nature. Pam is very courteous to our patients and always helpful. She is very organized and keeps the office running smoothly. She has helped out in each and every part of the office, and she is the go-to person for almost every issue. Pam has a wonderful sense of humor, and when things get stressful, she always has a way of making the staff smile or laugh and makes it easier to get through the day.

Jennifer Perrin

   Congratulations to Jennifer Perrin, from the Center for Clinical Resources, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of February.

   She has been employed since 2001 and is the diabetes coordinator in the Center for Clinical Resources.  As a registered dietitian with Food and Nutrition Services, Jennifer has been on the cutting edge of the latest diabetes information and advances.  She served as the coordinator and driving force behind the Diabetes Self-Management Training Program and became a certified diabetes educator (CDE) as the program grew.  In 2012, Jennifer was honored as the registered dietitian of the year by the Western Maryland AHEC Dietetic Caucus.

   She is an outstanding employee who works very hard to ensure the success of the diabetes program at WMHS.  Jennifer has a positive attitude and unparalleled empathy for her patients.  Co-workers describe her as compassionate, kind-hearted, dedicated and well-respected.  She is an excellent service excellence role model and a shining example of the WMHS Core Values in action in everything she does.

     An employee since June 1975, Kelly brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her unit.  Co-workers recognize her as a “premiere resource” and an inspiration to others.  Her talent and skills not only benefit her co-workers, but her patients and their families as well.  The Intensive Care Unit is a unit where lives are impacted in minutes, and Kelly makes those minutes matter.

    An employee with 40 years of experience, Sue is a proven leader and an excellent charge nurse. Brian Lippold

    Congratulations to Brian Lippold from EVS for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of November.

    As an integral member of the 7 North Perfect Circle of Care team, Brian consistently goes above and beyond in his daily tasks.  He is often one of the first to respond when a bed alarm is activated, staying with the patient until the nursing staff arrives.  Brian not only tends to the needs of the patients, but also to those of the family and his co-workers.

Rodney Bowers

     Congratulations to Rodney Bowers, a maintenance mechanic in the Facilities Department, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of June. 

      Employed since 2006, Rodney is an outstanding worker who takes a great deal of pride in his job and goes out of his way for his customers.  In fact, some departments say they love to have Rodney around because all you’ve got to do is ask and he fixes all of the mechanical problems in the department.  He is always chipper and eager to help out—ready with a smile and a positive word.

     Congratulations to Sharon Llewellyn, office coordinator in Radiation Oncology at the Schwab Family Cancer Center, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of May.
     An employee since 2006, Sharon is a team player and good communicator who constantly strives to help make her department run as smoothly as possible.  In her position, she deals with patients, staff and physicians with great skill and sensitivity.  Sharon is the main secretary in Radiation Oncology but she wears many hats as the coordinator of the busy office.  She is the first person many cancer patients see and she sets the proper tone with her friendly and compassionate manner.

     Congratulations to Tim Blank, a cardio invasive specialist with the Heart Institute's Interventional Department, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of December.

     An employee since 1991, Tim is an exceptional employee who works very closely with cardiologists to assist with cardiac catheterization procedures.  He is a team player and is willing to help others learn new techniques, especially when it improves patient outcomes.  Tim is a valuable resource to the Interventional team and he is a tireless advocate for his patients.

Barb Barnard

    Congratulations to Barb Barnard, office coordinator in Clinics and Practices, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of October.  She runs the busy office for cardiothoracic surgeons Dr. Mark Nelson and Dr. Subrato Deb. 

    An employee since 2007, Barb is a very hard worker with a fabulous attitude and a skill for organizing the practice and office staff for maximum efficiency.  Her efforts have resulted in decreased wait times and increased satisfaction for patients.  Barb also received additional training in medical coding and billing, which has made a huge difference in the revenue stream for the office.

    Chris is assigned to the ICU and CVU nursing units and has been working at WMHS since 2002.  She is an excellent employee with a great attitude and a friendly, pleasant demeanor.

       An employee for 31 years, Alda is an outstanding clinician and a very dedicated professional.  She is a positive role model and team player who helps mentor new members of the staff.  Alda gladly shares her expertise with others and often goes out of her way to advocate for her patients and their families.

     An employee since 2008, Josh is an excellent, hard-working phlebotomist who is a team player with a positive attitude.  He is a role model for others and gifted communicator.  Josh is often called upon to do the challenging draws and he always has a smile on his face.

      Congratulations to Shirley Young, a transcriptionist in Medical Records, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of December. 

      An employee since 1999, Shirley is an outstanding member of the transcription team and valuable asset to WMHS.  She is a good communicator and a tireless advocate for our patients.  Shirley is described by co-workers as versatile, dependable, caring, flexible and very efficient.

Justin Carr

     Justin was selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award winner for the month of June.  He works as a distribution and receiving technician in the health system's warehouse.  

     An employee since 2007, Justin was a key player in setting up and maintaining our PAR systems on the nursing units both at Braddock Hospital and at the new hospital.  He is a valuable asset to the Materials Management Department. 

    Justin always displays a positive and professional attitude and does everything he can to make his “customers” on the nursing units very satisfied.

Lisa Jackson

    An employee for 15 years, Lisa was selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of May.  She is an operating room tech in Perioperative Services and works with Drs. Nelson and Deb on open heart surgeries and other procedures.  Lisa has an excellent working relationship with the surgeons, her co-workers, and the other departments she deals with in coordinating patient care.  According to a co-worker who nominated her, "It’s obvious in everything she says and does that our patients are her number one priority.”  Lisa is a very knowledgeable resource and is dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
