2011 Recipients of Values in Action Award

Shirley Young, December 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Shirley Young, a transcriptionist in Medical Records, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of December.

An employee since 1999, Shirley is an outstanding member of the transcription team and valuable asset to WMHS. She is a good communicator and a tireless advocate for our patients. Shirley is described by co-workers as versatile, dependable, caring, flexible and very efficient.

Her organizational skills are legendary and she puts them to good use by pulling people together for birthdays, celebrations and other festive occasions that help to create a positive work environment. Shirley is a great role model for others and serves as a Service Excellence Champion for her department.

Carol Strawderman, November 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Carol Strawderman, a registrar in the Registration/Admitting Department, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of November.

Carol has been an employee since 1984 and she works at multiple sites, including the WAC, Johnson Heights and the hospital. An outstanding employee, Carol is a team player who often goes above and beyond her duties to provide patient-focused service.

Co-workers describe her as kind, empathetic, compassionate, respectful and very considerate. Carol is a versatile worker who leads by example and she is an exceptional ambassador for WMHS.

Debbie Dayton, October 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Debbie Dayton, a secretary for the Schwab Family Cancer Center, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award for the month of October.

An employee since 1999, Debbie is an excellent worker with an outgoing and enthusiastic personality. Her upbeat and positive attitude keeps everyone smiling and she is a true patient advocate.

Debbie coordinates and participates in many of the extra activities and community events of the Cancer Center. She is a shining example of Service Excellence at its best.

Denise Marsh, September 2011 Recipient

Congratulation to Cheryl “Denise” Marsh, charge nurse on the 7 North nursing unit, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of September.

An employee since 1989, Denise is an outstanding nurse and effective leader with a positive outlook and professional manner. She is described by co-workers as flexible, efficient, fair and very organized.

Denise serves as a mentor to others and is well-known for developing an excellent rapport with patients, families and medical staff. She is a shining example of service excellence at its best and exemplifies our core values.

Amy Campbell, August 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Amy Campbell, clerical coordinator for Clinics and Practices, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of August.

An employee for seven years, Amy is an exceptional employee with a positive attitude and a helpful nature. She is a team player and a good communicator who treats everyone with respect and kindness.

Amy is a tireless advocate for our patients and makes sure her co-workers have everything they need to provide excellent care. She often thinks “out of the box” to find creative solutions and takes the time to greet her colleagues with a friendly smile and words of encouragement.

Jim Brant, July 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Jim Brant, a programmer analyst for the Information Technology Department, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of July.

An employee since 1980, Jim is an excellent employee who is involved in many important projects at WMHS. He is the go-to person and works well with everyone. Jim is a team player and a hard worker with pleasant, upbeat attitude.

Bob MacMillan, June 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Bob MacMillan, a mechanic, and an electrician in the Facilities Department, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of June.

Employed since 1983, Bob is an outstanding employee who goes above and beyond to maintain the facility as if he would his own home. Bob is a team player and a very hard worker who displays good judgment. He is also described as respectful, friendly, proactive and safety conscience.

Ruth Romesburg, May 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Ruth Romesburg, a registered nurse in ICU, for being selected as the WMHS Values in Action Award recipient for the month of May.

An employee since 1975, Ruth is an outstanding employee and a compassionate caregiver with a positive attitude. She is a team player who works very well with other departments to coordinate the delivery of superb patient care.

Ruth is a great communicator and has excellent critical thinking skills. She is a mentor for newer nurses and a shining example of Service Excellence and the WMHS Core Values.

Rita Layman, April 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Rita Layman from Materials Management for being selected as the Values in Action Award recipient for the month of April.

An employee since 1980, Rita is an excellent employee and a team player with a positive attitude and a dedication to her duties that is unparalleled. Rita is very mindful of others and does a fantastic job resolving issues in a timely fashion.

Co-workers describe her as courteous, personable, respectful and conscientious. In fact, her nominator singled out Rita as someone who is “absolutely the ideal employee in every way.”

Cheryl Brantner, March 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Cheryl Brantner from Nursing Admin for being selected as the Values in Action Award winner for the month of March.

An employee since 2006, Cheryl is the executive secretary for WMHS Nursing Administration. She is described by her co-workers as helpful, approachable, reliable, positive and respectful.

Cheryl is the ultimate team player who is known as accurate, polite and well-organized. She greets everyone with a bright smile and a kind word, effortlessly handling every situation with grace and composure.

Dee Lockard, February 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Belinda “Dee” Lockard, Care Management, on being named the Values in Action Award winner for February.

Dee began her career at WMHS in 1980 and currently serves as a Utilization Management Analyst in the Care Management Dept.

Dee is a team player who brings a positive attitude and wealth of knowledge to her job. Her co-workers describe her as thoughtful, conscientious and detail-oriented. She treats everyone with dignity and respect.

Taryn Bennett, RN, January 2011 Recipient

Congratulations to Taryn Bennett, Wound Care, on being named January’s Values in Action Award winner.

Taryn has been an employee since 1988. A full-time ET nurse, she regularly works as a staff RN on 5 West. Taryn is a tireless patient advocate and a great educator for staff, patients, and their families.

She is the ultimate team player, working diligently with a wide variety of departments while treating everyone with respect and kindness.
