WMHS Honors Medical Staff at Physician Gala 2012

The Western Maryland Health System recently honored the Medical Staff at the annual Physician Recognition Gala at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. The Western Maryland Health System named Dr. William Lamm as Physician of the Year during its annual Physician Recognition Gala, which was held recently at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Lamm was chosen from over 50 nominations for 22 different physicians by members of the medical staff, health system employees, volunteers and board members. Nominators described him as compassionate, highly-skilled, thoughtful, and a leader in patient-centered care. Dr. Lamm has stepped forward to work as an innovator and partner in moving forward with physician technology initiatives. He has been a tireless visionary whose perseverance and dedication to the patients in his care have made him an inspiration to his colleagues, co-workers, as well as the entire WMHS family.

Board-certified in family practice and geriatric medicine, Dr. Lamm was in private practice for 21 years before joining the WMHS Hospital Medicine program in 2004. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine, where he continues to be a clinical instructor. Dr. Lamm also has been a past president of the WMHS medical staff and a past chairman of the Department of Family Medicine.
The Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors an outstanding physician with more than 20 years of service to our community, was presented to Dr. James Raver. A physician with the Hospital Medicine program, he has served WMHS in many roles at during his 32-year tenure. Dr. Raver joined the medical staff in 1980 as a pulmonologist and saw patients in private practice. In 1999, he was named Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Services at WMHS. In 2010, Dr. Raver retired from his administration position but remains active as a physician with the Hospital Medicine program.

His nominators cited him as being one of the most obliging and affirming doctors on the medical staff. Dr. Raver is a tremendous attribute to WMHS and provides excellent patient care with wisdom and compassion. According to one of the nominations, "He always takes time out of his busy day to assist anyone who asks for a helping hand.” Dr. Raver holds board certifications in three specialties: internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care. He is a graduate of the United State Air Force Academy and received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where also did his internship and residency.

A new award was presented this year that honors an outstanding physician who joined the medical staff within the last five years. The Mane Ictum award takes its name from the Latin term for "quick impact.” The award was presented to Dr. Aman Dalal, who is board-certified in internal medicine and fellowship-trained in infectious diseases. He joined the medical staff in 2010 after completing his fellowship at New York Hospital Queens in Flushing, New York. Dr. Dalal received his medical degree from the Medical School of the Armed Forces Medical College in India. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Guthrie/Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Dalal was singled out for recognition because he has had such a dramatic impact in such a short time on the medical staff. His nominators mentioned that he is such a kind and caring doctor with a demeanor that is always pleasant. Dr. Dalal responds very quickly to calls for his expertise and shows genuine concern for his patients. Despite the serious nature of his work, he managed to keeps hospital staff and colleagues smiling with his great sense of humor.

These dedicated physicians are well respected by their colleagues and loved by their patients and the nurses and staff at WMHS. Congratulations to all of the physicians on the medical staff for their hard work and commitment to the patients in their care.
