November Values in Action Spirit Award Recipient - Carol Carr

An employee since 1995, Carol was selected as the Western Maryland Health System's Values in Action Spirit Award recipient for the month of November. Carol is employed as a dietary worker at the Frostburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In addition to the 12 years she has worked at the nursing center, Carol spent 21 years working in Dietary for the old Frostburg Hospital prior to it becoming part of WMHS.

As part of her duties, Carol performs a variety of tasks in the Dietary Department. She works in the kitchen and on the floors, as well as spending a couple of days each week in the office working on billing and ordering tasks. Carol is very organized and keeps the Dietary Department well stocked.

Carol is an excellent employee with a positive attitude and a very pleasant disposition. She is a good communicator who works well with others and helps out in any way she can. Co-workers describe her as courteous, reliable, considerate, understanding, and very compassionate. She often goes above and beyond her normal job duties by doing whatever needs to be done without hesitation.

Carol says she really enjoys her work and she loves her job because of the people. "I enjoy the staff and I get a lot of satisfaction out of helping people, especially the residents." She has taken the time to get to know the residents and goes out of her way to help them by delivering their nourishment or getting them something special. Carol is a role model for Service Excellence and her caring nature is a great example of the health system's Core Values at work.

Carol and her husband, Ron, reside in Frostburg on Big Savage Mountain near the Garrett County line. Her daughter, Christy, and husband Stephen, live in Westminster and they have two young children - Caitlin and Mark. In addition to being a grandmother, Carol also has two step-daughters, Valerie and Rhonda.

Away from work, she likes to spend as much time as she can visiting her two beautiful grandchildren. She enjoys walking and gardening, especially planting flowers outside of her home.
