Values in Action Spirit Award Recipient for January – Connie Davis
Connie is an outstanding employee with a great work ethic and a positive can do attitude. She is dedicated to giving her very best to her clients and quietly goes about doing her job with a caring hand and genuine concern for their well-being. Connie is a frequent recipient of compliments from families for her kindness and gentleness. She often remembers the smallest details on the likes and dislikes of almost everyone in the program and anticipated their needs. Co-workers describe Connie as considerate, dedicated, resourceful and very creative. She often goes above and beyond the call of duty in everything she does. An excellent role model for newer employees, Connie sets a great example for her colleagues by never complaining and cheerfully doing whatever she is asked to do. Her daily routine begins on the bus with helping clients get on and off. Then she helps with lunch, personal care and activities. Connie especially enjoys getting clients moving with various physical activities. She really likes the field trips they take to go bowling, have picnics, or other fun outdoor activities. "It's never boring," says Connie, of her work at AMDC. "We have a good variety of activities and I like to keep our folks busy." She also says the staff is very caring and supportive. "We have a great group of employees and a good working relationship," says Connie. "It's a neat place to work and, of course, we have a great boss in Jane Jenkins." Connie has also been involved with creating the posters for AMDC entry into the annual Performance Improvement Poster Contest. In the last three years, her posters have taken one of the top awards, including a first place this past year for best project and best live presentation. Connie has also been responsible for AMDC’s entry in the holiday door decorating contest. Connie and her husband, Homer, live in Flintstone and have been married for 32 years. They are the parents of two grown children – Kristina, 29, and Derrick, who is 26. Kristina is engaged to be married in October and Connie became a grandmother for the first time in September with the birth of Derrick's son, Landon. Connie's mother, Freeda Riggleman, was a longtime employee at Memorial and she was also honored as the employee of the quarter almost 30 years ago. Away from work, Connie enjoys walking, reading and counted cross-stitch. She is very active in playing adult volleyball and softball. Connie helps with volleyball twice a week at the Flintstone Elementary School gym and at Rocky Gap in the summer.
