Goals for CIRU

Our inpatient program is dedicated to providing comprehensive rehabilitative services for individuals with physical, functional thinking, swallowing, or communication impairments. Through a team approach, our focus is on providing sound rehabilitative therapy to improve movement, self-care, and communication; to educate our patients and their families to promote good health, wellness and self-worth; to plan for after-rehab care; and to re-establish individuals back into their community.

Our commitment is to help improve one's best level of physical, educational and psychosocial skills necessary for his/her return to prior level of functioning.

The CIRU Team

The CIRU uses an interdisciplinary approach to care and features the following care providers:

  • Physicians trained in rehabilitative medicine
  • Nurses
  • Physical Therapists
  • Social Worker
  • Recreational Therapist
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Others, as needed

This team works together with the patient and his/her family to develop a plan of rehabilitation care that best meets the needs of the patient. Every attempt is made to re-create the patient's home environment as closely as possible to replicate the types of activities and movements the patient will do when he or she returns home. Families are welcome to visit frequently and often are encouraged to participate in the patient's training and therapy sessions. The staff will provide patients and their families with instruction on continuing the rehabilitation process at home.
