Buprenorphine treatment:

  • Definition: Buprenorphine is a drug used to treat heroin and other opiate dependence problems. A patient must get proper treatment by trained physician, with supportive counseling 2-3 times weekly throughout duration of treatment program. Doctor can write prescription for doses. Consumed as a tablet that dissolves under the tongue. It blocks withdrawal and cravings without producing a high. Less addictive than methadone with fewer overdose occurrences.
