LOOK GOOD... FEEL BETTER
This program is designed to teach female cancer patients techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments. Offered by the Regional Cancer Center as a free community service, Look Good... Feel Better is an American Cancer Society program in partnership with the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association and the National Cosmetology Association.
Julie Hardy,RN, OCN and Betty Harvey, a breast Cancer survivor, provide the coordination and leadership to bring together local cosmetologists who volunteer their expertise in this important element of patient care. This core gore group of people is active in promoting a sense of well being during a time of tremendous challenge.
Each year, this program also sponsors the successful "Image of Hope" fashion show that features cancer survivors as models. The show helps to instill the idea that people do survive cancer, and can look and feel good during and after the treatments. The Mary Carol Shop in Frostburg, Maryland provides fashions and its owner Robyn Hager-Sine, coordinates the fashions and serves as master of ceremonies.

THE HAND IN HAND CANCER CONNECTION
The Hand in Hand support group meets the third Wednesday of each month and is open to all cancer patients and their families. Participating in a group is a way to promote positive attitudes for the healing process and the cancer survivor experience. Guest speakers often volunteer their time to help incorporate alternative ways to deal with cancer. Popular topics have included, massage therapy, music and art therapy, yoga and the importance of using humor to cope. The on-going need to address issues of survivorship and quality of life is a focus of almost all people who have a cancer diagnosis. This group provides the opportunity to meet this need.
Meetings are held at 7:00 pm on the Braddock Campus of the WMHS. For more information call Julie Hardy, RN, OCN, Unit Coordinator for Medical oncology at 301-723-6106.
