This American Cancer Society Patient and Family Cancer Education Program consists of a series of classes that provide information about cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as, assistance in coping with the physical and emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis. This forum provides a safe climate to assist in an effective response in winning the battle against cancer and is evaluated by the participants at the end of each class, as well as, the end of each session offered.
Offered through the WMHS on the Braddock Campus, Julie Longenecker,
LCSW-C, is the program's coordinator and professional facilitator. She is assisted by volunteer facilitators, Pat and Bob Jubb (a cancer survivor) in offering this series two times per year. Each of the classes utilizes the expertise of staff professionals and is offered to all local patients with cancer and their families.
Three new I Can Cope Modules will be offered
for the first time this year which are two hour sessions that focus
on a single topic and include, "Relieving Cancer Pain", "Taking
Charge of Money Matters" and "Nutritional Well-Being".
