Security

The safety of our nurses is a top priority for WMHS. We have taken a number of steps to ensure the safety of everyone both working at and visiting WMHS.

To start, our Safety-Security Services Department is a fully-staffed service department that provides services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Security Officers are on duty providing support in a variety of ways including manning a stationary post in the triage/emergency department and patrolling officers both inside and outside of the main hospital Willowbrook campus. WMHS also utilizes a surveillance system with over 200 cameras that are located throughout the campus.

During the evening/night, exterior entrances to the hospital and other campus buildings are locked and require an appropriate ID badge to enter. Visitors to the hospital are required to enter at the emergency entrance adjacent to the emergency department so they can be registered by security personnel and given a photo ID badge to wear during their stay.

In all our departments, nursesevices. This is a silent alarm that goes to the WMHS call center for security and, if needed, law-enforcement response. Additionally, an internal emergency number is in place for direct contact with the call center. Using any WMHS landline phone, you can dial 33 and a call center operator will immediately answer and know that an emergency is occurring.

For nurses working later shifts, WMHS has a law enforcement presence in the emergency department between 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., seven days a week. The Cumberland Police and the Allegany County SheriffThe officer or deputy on duty is stationed in the emergency department area, but is able to respond to an emergency anywhere in the hospital if needed.

Additionally, to ensure nurses feel safe getting from the hospital to their vehicles at the end of their shift, WMHS introduced Operation Safe Ride in September of 2015 to provide an escort to and from vehicles on the campus at night.

Even the WMHS parking garage is connected to our emergency call center. The parking garage is equipped with that connect the user with the call center to make getting a response to an emergency as easy and fast as possible.

We go to great lengths to safeguard everyone, especially those working during the night hours. No matter what the hour, there are always resources available to assist in an emergency.
