WMHS Horizon Award Presented to Krista Montgomery

WMHS President and CEO Barry Ronan presents the Horizon Award to Krista Montgomery, Operations Manager for Diagnostic Imaging.

Krista Montgomery, Operations Manager for Diagnostic Imaging, was named the most recent recipient of the WMHS Horizon Award, which recognizes excellence in the leadership of people.

Since joining WMHS in 1978, Krista has served in a variety of leadership roles in Radiology, including clinical coordinator, interim director and quality assurance coordinator. She is also a certified CAT scan technologist and sonographer, having received her training at the University of Virginia Medical Center. In her current position, Krista is responsible for the day-to-day operations for Diagnostic Imaging Services and the staffing of technologists on both campuses.

Krista personifies the mission and spirit of WMHS. She exemplifies service excellence and has always been focused on patient satisfaction. She has willingly and confidently assumed many different roles during her employment and has done so with a positive attitude and a strong sense of leadership.

Krista's nomination cited her ability to inspire the staff to new levels of performance by creating a positive work environment, seeking staff input, and putting patients' needs first. She has led by example and proves that the only successful working environment is one that is done as a team and with an enormous amount of respect for colleagues and patients, as well as integrity for one's self. The Horizon Award was developed by a team of employees to recognize a supervisor, manager, or department director for leading by example, creating a positive work environment, inspiring staff to a high level of excellence, being a role model for Service Excellence, and demonstrating the WMHS Core Values.

Krista joins past Horizon Award recipients Jeff O'Neal, System Director of Behavioral Health; Kim Martin, Nurse Manager of ICU; Cathy Carter, Manager of Admissions and Registration; and Karen Stair, Director of Cardiovascular Services. She is the fifth recipient of the Horizon Award, which was first presented in 2005.
