VOLUNTEER OPENINGS AT WMHS

The Western Maryland Health System has volunteer positions available in a variety of departments and locations. Here is listing of the current volunteer opportunities available at WMHS and a description of the type of work involved in each volunteer area:

Meals on Wheels – Cumberland Program

We are looking for a few new packers for the Cumberland Meals on Wheels program. This program is currently based at Memorial Campus. The packers come to the hospital and make the packed lunches that are delivered to shut-ins in our area. They work in pairs from about 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. After that, a group of delivery drivers and greeters come in to deliver these meals to the client's homes. We are also in need of a few more drivers and greeters to help deliver these meals – especially someone who may be willing to substitute for a regular route person. Anyone interested in these positions should contact Lois Taylor, Meals on Wheels Coordinator at 301-723-3750.

NEW Joint Restoration Center – Opening in July

We are looking to recruit and train special volunteers for a new center opening on the 2 South area on Memorial Campus. This center is dedicated to knee and hip replacement patients and is a very focused unit striving to get these patients back on their feet quickly. Volunteers in this area will be specially trained to do duties unique to this unit. We are looking for a minimum of three volunteers to start and hoping to expand it in a very short time to many more. Those interested in getting in on the "ground floor" of this opportunity should be able to push a wheel chair, lift some items (nothing over 40 lbs), be willing and able to learn about the new unit and how it operates. A special orientation will be held as soon as we get at least three interested people.

Outpatient Department/GI – Braddock Campus

This position is for someone willing to help with the discharge of patients, taking them in wheelchairs to waiting cars. A volunteer must be able to push a wheelchair and have appropriate conversational skills to deal closely with our patient population. This is an extremely busy area and can use help every day of the week, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you are interested in any of these volunteer positions with the Western Maryland Health System, please call Patricia Wright, Director of Volunteer Services, at 301-723-4048 or 301-723-5107, or email her at pwright@wmhs.com and request an application packet. Every new volunteer must complete an application, a health appraisal form (signed by a physician) and pass a background check. Orientations are held on an individual basis following receipt of the paperwork mentioned. Please call and leave your name and address information to apply for any of the above positions.
