WMHS Names New Radiation Oncology Medical Director - Dr. Scott Watkins
For the past two years, Dr. Watkins also served as Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at the Davis Cancer Care Center at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins and was on the medical staff at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown. He has been a consulting physician at several hospital cancer programs in the Mountain State, including the Fairmont Regional Cancer Center and Clarksburg's United Hospital Center Cancer Program, as well as the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at WVU. Dr. Watkins did his radiation oncology residency at Albert Einstein/Temple University's Hospital in Philadelphia and completed an internship in Family Medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals. He received his medical degree at the West Virginia School of Medicine and got his undergraduate degree from McDaniel (Western Maryland) College in Westminster, Maryland. Dr. Watkins brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the specialty of Radiation Oncology. He has special training with Gamma Knife radiosurgery, Stereotactic radiosurgery and training in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), which is considered the most advanced radiation available to destroy cancer cells without damaging normal tissue. Dr. Watkins is board-certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, as well as the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group.
