The Western Maryland Health System is proud to announce the certification of its cardiac rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).   WMHS was recognized for its commitment to improving the quality of life by enhancing standards of care.

"This certification demonstrates that the highest level of cardiac rehab services is available in our community, explains Karen Stair, Director of Cardiovascular Services at WMHS.  "Cardiologist Christopher Haas, D.O., and the cardiac rehab team are dedicated to providing patients with the tools they need to get healthy and stay healthy.

Cardiovascular rehabilitation programs are designed to help people who have had a heart attack or coronary artery bypass graft surgery recover faster, improve their quality of life, and prevent future heart attacks.  The cardiac rehab program at WMHS includes exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.

The WMHS Cardiac Rehab program participated in an application process that requires extensive documentation of the programs practices.  AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed by the AACVPR and other professional societies.  The AACVPR Program Certification Committee reviews each program, and the AACVPR Board of Directors awards certification, which is valid for three years.

AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiac rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.
