Planning for the New Hospital Continues

The planning teams for the Western Maryland Health System's new hospital on Willowbrook continue to work on the design for the new hospital.

The most significant change is the position of the hospital on Willowbrook Road. In the initial design, the main entrance faced Willowbrook Road. The position of the hospital has been turned 90 degrees so that the main entrance faces the northwest and is accessed from a driveway off Willowbrook Road. This change enables WMHS to better use the slope of the land and reduce the cost of site excavation and preparation.

The Certificate of Need application was submitted to the Maryland Health Care Commission in April 2005, with addendums and a new design plan sent to them in June. The next step in the CON process is for the Maryland Health Care Commission to review the application from WMHS, a process which usually takes at least six months.
