New Hospital Timeline
- WMMS announced in January 2004 its intention to move to a single-campus hospital, either at one of the existing hospitals or at a new facility
- WMHS Board approved plan to build new hospital on Willowbrook Road in September 2004
- Over 300 physicians and employees participated in Design Development phase beginning in late Fall 2004
- CON applied for in August 2005 and approved in March 2006 by Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC)
- 275-bed 585,000 square feet replacement hospital
- Estimated total cost $359 million
- $228 in construction
- Plus equipment, A & E, interest during construction, debt service reserve, financing cost, refinance existing debt, etc.
- Acquired the former M & T Call Center for administrative space
- Purchased Kelly-Springfield Tire Company's former offices and tire testing center
- Partnered with Allegany County to renovate buildings for new home for Allegany County Health Department
- Exchanged property with Allegany County to gain ownership of new hospital site
- Barton Malow/Mascaro retained as Construction Manager
- Full architectural plans completed by Hord Coplan Macht in Spring 2006
- Price for construction materials started to rise dramatically
- Guaranteed maximum price received in Sept 2006 was $40 million over original estimates
- CON modified and approved by MHCC in Sept 2006
- New approved amount is $406 million
- $268 in construction costs
- Slight increase in related costs
- Bonds issued by Maryland Health and Higher Education Financing Authority
- Security for Bonds - Mortgage and Bond Insurance\
- Mortgage secured by HUD FHA 242 Program
- Groundbreaking for new hospital on October 25, 2006
