  • Assisting with patient care activities
  • Delivering mail and flowers
  • Providing clerical assistance to staff

Hospice Volunteers

Volunteers are an important part of the hospice team. Volunteers in the WMHS Home Hospice Program provide companionship and emotional support for patients and their families and can often enable the family caregiver to take a break from the responsibilities of around-the-clock care. Other types of assistance provided by these volunteers may include helping with errands, doing light housekeeping, preparing meals, creating diversionary activities, and providing transportation.

For more information about these volunteer opportunities, please call Jamie Daniels at 301-723-6225.

WMHS Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Volunteers are always welcomed at the WMHS Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Frostburg. This skilled nursing facility is home to nearly 90 residents. Volunteers provide companionship to the residents, assist with special activities, and help create a festive, homelike atmosphere.

Teen Volunteer Program

Young people between the ages of 14 and 18 can serve their community and gain valuable insight into healthcare careers as part of our Teen Volunteer Program at the two hospital campuses. Teens provide assistance to the busy nursing staff and other professional personnel and serve as ambassadors to the health system.

Classes for teens are held each June, following the end of the school year. Applications are accepted from February to April.
